A wide variety of fuels are used to power generators. The most common are gasoline, diesel, propane and natural gas. With such a wide array of options, the house owner's choice of fuel and the right type of generator will depend upon factors such as the availability of fuel and the frequency of the use.
Gasoline generators
Gasoline generators are the most familiar type of generator. The fuel is readily available and is relatively inexpensive. The power per weight unit in a gasoline-powered generator is also more than other type of generators.
Gasoline generators are less expensive than generators that use other fuel sources. However their price depends upon the components used. Multi cylinder, water-cooled engines are qualitatively superior and are priced high. These generators, unlike the cheaper, single cylinder, air cooled engines produce less noise and operate with a steady temperature. Some generators come loaded with features like overhead valves, low oil shut down, high temperature shutdown and electric starter.
Engine speed and the type of alternators used also determine the life of the generator
There are certain disadvantages using gasoline generators. Gasoline has a very short shelf life of approximately six months. Fuel stabilizers have to be added to keep the fuel from getting unusable. Gasoline is highly inflammable and storing gasoline for long duration of time can be extremely dangerous. Gasoline generators require frequent maintenance and there is the problem of condensation occurring in cold weather.
Gasoline forms gum deposits especially in cold weather and can cause problems in fuel filters and carburetors if the generator is not run often.
The generators are available in 3KW to 15KW and more. The minimum cost of home generators in the range of 3KW to 5 KW is approximately $500 to $1000.
Natural gas generators
Most standby or permanent generators are powered by natural gas. It is the most convenient source of fuel and normally available at all times.
Natural gas supplied through home gas lines can be conveniently piped to the generator eliminating the inconvenience of refueling and the risk of storing the fuel. In areas where natural gas is available, using a natural gas fuelled generator is a better choice. The generator lasts longer, requires less maintenance and burns cleaner. The engine produces less noise than diesel or gasoline powered generators
Propane gas generator
Propane gas is normally used for permanent standby generators or in places where there is an availability of fuel supply. For house owners who already have a storage tank of around 150 to 200 gallons, propane generators are the best choice.
These generators require less maintenance. There is no problem starting them up or condensation in cold weather. Propane gas has a longer shelf life and burns cleaner. The disadvantage of propane is that it is relatively expensive and is less efficient, producing less energy per unit volume than diesel. A 10KW to 12KW generator is sufficient to power a normal sized home.
A 12KW propane or natural gas generator may costs $3200 upwards. .

Chicago, IL (ContentDesk) March 22, 2006 -- Hurricane season is still two months away, but the mad rush for emergency power generators has already started. ElectricGeneratorsDirect.com (http://www.electricgeneratorsdirect.com), an online generator superstore carrying the leading generator brands, is already experiencing a huge surge in generator sales this Spring. A lot of people are still rebuilding from Katrina, Rita and Wilma, said Jon Hoch, founder of ElectricGeneratorsDirect.com (http://www.electricgeneratorsdirect.com). Theyre not waiting for a tropical depression to form before they start preparing for hurricane season. Generator manufacturers ran out of inventory three years in a row. Last year, it took them until January to replenish inventories from the 2005 Hurricane season.
Do the math, warns Hoch. The manufacturers only...

Corona system for label presses
Vetaphone has developed a compact corona treating system which consists of a small electrode-unit and a remote controlled generator with a built-in HP-transformer. The size of both generator and electrode-unit has been kept to a minimum, allowing the electrode-unit to be mounted directly in-line on narrow web presses, while the remote controlled generator can be hidden away behind the press. The remote control operating panel can be placed conveniently at the main control panel.
The range of the compact system is treatment widths of up to 500mm and an output power of up to 2000 watt, which is sufficient to treat almost any type of substrate. The stations are furnished with durable ceramic tube electrodes for treatment of both electrically conductive substrates (i.e. metallised film) and non-conductive film (PP, PE, etc).
For easier cleaning and maintenance the new narrow web stations have been through a re-design process where many improvements have been...
Get more than just "a presence" on the Internet
The water purification salesman had been talking to us for what seemed like hours.
During a lull in his monologue, I asked if he had a website."Yes.
In fact, we are the only independent distributors of this product who does," he proudly beamed."So you get a lot of leads from the website, then?" I asked."No, actually I don't think we've gotten a single lead from it," he replied."Then why do you have a website?" I wanted to know."To have a presence on the Internet."A few days later, our home inspector was giving us an update on the state of our house.
We had bought it a few years earlier in winter, when snow was on the ground and on the roof, and we thought an update would be a worthwhile investment."Do you have a website?" I asked."Yes, I do.
But, I don't think a single customer found me that way.""Then why do you have a website?" I asked."To have a presence on the Internet."A lot of entrepreneurs and small businesses are sold on paying for a website...
The Economics of Generators: Why Now is a Great Time to Buy an Emergency Generator
Thinking about getting an emergency generator before the next power outage hits? You might be surprised that now is the best time to buy an emergency generator in more than a year. According to Jon Hoch, founder of Electric Generators Direct.com (http://www.electricgeneratorsdirect.com), an online generator superstore, emergency generator prices are influenced by the simple economics of supply and demand. "The best time to buy a generator is between power outages, when supplies are plentiful and promotions are prevalent," says Hoch. Last year, two wide-spread power outages severely altered the generator marketplace. The Northeast power outage in August exhausted the surplus inventory traditionally reserved for hurricane season.
By the time Hurricane Isabel hit the East Coast in mid-September, every available generator in the country evaporated. Local hardware stores sold out in a matter of hours. Many desperate...

Hydrogen generators safety
Using and handling hydrogen presents many dangers, when air and hydrogen is mixed risks of an explosion highly increase because the mixture is highly explosive.
When working with hydrogen generators you mast be very attentive. the room where the hydrogen generator is placed should be very well ventilated, an outdoor zone if possible, and everything must be done to eliminate the risks of explosion and fire around the hydrogen generator.
When using and handling the hydrogen generator incorrectly, it may produce excessive heat and dangerous chemical reactions. For example, if the hydrogen generator is removed from its water tank
while it is operating it will overheat and high risks of fire appear. If you wish to remove a hydrogen generator from the water you must wait first for the generation of the hydrogen to stop.
All the equipment on the nitrogen generator should be grounded, to prevent static electrical charges from generating....
